IRS '92: Current Problems in Atmospheric Radiation
Proceedings of the International Radiation Symposium, Tallinn, Estonia
Edited by
Sirje Keevallik and Olavi Kärner
Institute of Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics, Toravere, Estonia
The objective of the quadrennial International Radiation Symposia is to provide a forum
to review the state of the art in the field of atmospheric radiation. Papers presented at
IRS 92, held 3-8 August 1992, included many by well known active researchers in this
field. The scientific program consisted of four sections.
- Section 1 was dedicated to the interactions between clouds and radiation and the impact
of the cloudiness on the state of the atmosphere.
- Section 2 dealt with the effects of radiative gases, aerosols, and cloud cover on the
radiation budget and, thus, on the contemporary climate. In several papers the 1991
Pinatubo eruption effects were discussed.
- Section 3 focused on the remote sensing problems: remote observations of atmospheric,
oceanic, and biospheric parameters were described and application of visible, infrared,
ultraviolet, and microwave portions of the spectrum was proposed.
- Section 4 reviewed the latest developments in radiative transfer calculations,
spectroscopy and other fundamental problems of atmospheric radiation.
These proceedings contain 144 peer-reviewed papers.
